Thing 23 One last thing

Thing 23
What were your favorite discoveries or exercises on this learning journey?
I think I am going to get a lot of the social net works like the wiki and the Nings. This surprises me because I thought I preferred the graphic organizers and the photo editor could be good to zing up the class web site. It is nice to know all the variety of resources.
How has this program assisted or affected your lifelong learning goals?
The things will continue me as a lifetime learner being aware of the many resources will keep me moving to being the great teacher we are all striving to be. Having as many recourse as possible allows us to reach every students.
Were there any take away or unexpected outcomes for the program that surprised you?
I have enjoyed reading the other blogs and seeing the other finding I have also been surprised at all the things you can do. I am looking forward to using things like the pb wiki’s with fellow teachers.
What could we do differently to improve upon this program’s format or concept?
This summer has been great I have enjoyed time working together and have enjoyed the placement of discovery of each thing.
If we offered another discovery program like this in the future, would you choose to participate?
Yes! I hope to take the next step.
How would you describe your learning experience in ONE WORD or in ONE SENTENCE, so we could use your words to promote 23 Things learning activities
Inspiring

Thing 22

Thing 22 Nings
That is nice to have a social place for people to post teaching idea I think I knew them as forum I read the post bout a teachers hoping to meet her coworker soon and thought, how true this is, Teachers are one of the few professions where we have to work with other with but have so little time to develop relationships We are called on to develop the relationships with students that encourage them to learn We are allowed the 30 min lunch and the 45 min planning but not necessary at the same time with those that we are required to work so closely with sometimes even co teachers in the same room it seems that all these “23 things” are going to be what we can use to build those relationship when we do not have common times.
I did not see a Nings that meets my needs but now that I know what to look for can be watching for one I am going to CAMT next week and just going to the conference that brings together professional in your teaching area is such a big deal I was feeling bad that the conference is local this year so I will not be meeting people in the elevator of the hotel or meeting when we get lost trying to go out to dinner. But discovering a Nings of math teaches might be just a great.

Thing 21

Thing 21 I forgot who I was there for a while but I am back on again and now my account is tied to the new spring branch email and no longer to the older wilson1m
During all this I did post a YouTube
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFjn-tQyR9o
I did have to purcase a new video camera for my laptop I found one at best buy and with coupons and sales I only paid $27 The quality seem good.
I think I could use this with my students to fill in when students miss classes due to absents
A second way to use this is by having the students create podcas explaining a solution to a problem This would be best done in groups so that only those who wish to be broadcast can be seen my others ELL strategies says that the group work is a great way to be new speakers comfortable with the language.

Thing 19

Thing 19
Web 2.0
What is special about the tool? What are its useful parts, especially with regards to Libraries and school? How might you use this tool in your own setting?
White board looks good. I knew you could record and print your work with the smart board and the active board but with this you can do it with the web this is great
Digital storage I had heard of go to my PC .com and have your file can we get to all of them from school. I would be nice for students to be able to bring thiere files to and from home or library with out the memory sticks
Under education there is Docstoc It does have things from all over the world but it is hard to find work that applies to my teaching
There is a lot and many I use but some are new I had trouble with the game sites not the type of game you can use at school.

Thing 18

Thing 18
On line production

Open office we have been using at home We sue to have problems sharing files but it has been of great help and the price is right. I do find the sell checking not as easy but I know I will figure it out
Google docs.
this would also be great to use a with co worker for planning and collaboration when we do not have common time.

Thing 17 Rollyo
This is a good Idea to create a save way for students to do research
So often they can get lost or side tricked searching the wrong places
What a great a simple way to set up success for the students.

Thing 16

Thing 16
It took me a while on the wiki In the middle of reading all of learning 2.0 I attended a workshop on co-teaching One the suggestions for communicating to co teachers was to use a wiki So I have created a PBwiki It even lets the member to talk over the web so that time and place does not need to work keep teachers apart.

Thing 15 Library 2.0
I watched the video and I wonder about there numbers Yes I know the 20,000 in dept and Yes I know about the face book and even more people are face booking from their cell phones. Watch a 20 something person have conversation in the quite seconds they are texting They do it with out being noticeable we in the classroom have taught them to text witout being seen They are checking the web finding direction updating web sites or just saying OMG
So how can I teach so all student can learn?
I continued reading and continued watching what Michael Has to say and how he is reaching the student and how he is using web 2.0
He is getting his student to do real work and real thinking with participating video It was interesting and worth watching

Thing 14

Thing 14 Thechnorati
It could be a great site but I am getting lost with all the add They drop down and cover the search area It is too busy I know it might be worth getting use to that much It feels very commercial What a business can do to make themselves more popular and influence life for their profit, I pinged my blog but am not sure I trust this site

Thing 13

Thing 13
So I was slow to get going today and I read Delicious I had seen it years ago and thought OK the page of words I read on and put in education thinking so how will this help my student and I found
• How do you spark off an interest in maths when the curriculum seems dreary? | Education | The Guardian SAVE
o resource
o toread
o teaching
o education
so this was cool there were things I could use and then I found the cloud that was the part I know about You can save things and still find them.

Thing 12

Thing 12 Creating a community
So I have begun following a few other peoples blogs and have been blogging on my own and would like to know If you have seen some great blogs.
I also have another question I have a sister in-law who has just finished her PHD in education in the area of Math and curriculum and is reading to get to work in a school district does any one know of a district looking for a skilled person?

Thing 11

Thing 11 Now I have tried Library Thing. I can see how this is great for the Librarian that are cataloging books. I did add the book I am reading and the book I want to read next.

Thing 8

Thing 8
This is the RSS feed
I know that I like to check certain news sites daily looking for news stories that are important to my life so having a reader that puts them all together for one quick look and organized to find what I need is quite helpful.
I was a little worried about subscribing to the news feeds because I was not sure what it would do to the tools I use every day but this made it all manageable.

Thing 7

Thing 7
Google does have a lot to offer. The tools were a lot of fun I like Google earth best. Web history could also be helpful. I know that I use atomic learning when I need to get unstuck on a computer problem.

Thing 6

Thing 6 Mashup
Being able to use the pictures in different forms could be helpful in finding that perfect graphic to add to a math lesson I enjoyed making pictures from all the shades of blue

Thing 5 Photos

Thing 5

Thing 5 Flicker
I started using flicker this summer so today I decide to look at Ike. I knew I would see a lot of pictures and it is interesting to see the other Ike besides the hurricane It is good to remember that with every search you are going to find more than what you are first looking for.
With the other 23 things that I start with this summer I saw montages of things that are blue or picture made of small picture
I liked the Interesting in the last 7 days some of the picture have a great way of looking at the ordinary

Thing 4

Thing 4 posting
I have sent in my blog spot and hope to be posting soon

Thing 3

Thing 3 Setting up the blog and creating an Avatar
I found the blog to be easy I just learned early that I need to type up my Blog in Word and use spell check to make all correction before posting I also saw how I can change up my blog in the customize section at the top
I can go back and edit my posting and remove them if I need to.
I can change my layout and change my colors. This helps.
I have created my avatar trying to add all the parts of who I am but was still limited. I had trouble adding the HTML script and finally just exported the picture and pasted in on the page. Maybe some one else had better luck and could share their success.

Thing 2

Ok I am a little out of sequence.I am back at thing 2 with the life long learning. I would consider my self as a life long learner. I do yoga and have taken up cycling recently. I will read books that teach new ideas; I also will seek out and find webinars. I would like to inspire my students to be life long learners. I would like to allow them to go online and continue their learning with the web. I will like to use what I have learned here to add to my web site to contiue the studnets learning I like the idea of accept responsibility for your own learning. Not just learning way the class covers.

We are looking at what do students need to learn
Agricultural age Industrial Age Information Age, now conceptual age

Last night I was able to watch edutopia’s engaging the digital generation
Looking at way to teach students It reminded me of the rubrics
